Erica Farber

February 1, 2023 – Season Two, Episode 21 – My first guest of season two is Erica Farber, the President and CEO of the Radio Advertising Bureau. Prior to joining the RAB, she was CEO of The Farber Connection, a consulting company. She held several positions with Radio & Records including CEO and Publisher. And she was also Executive Vice President and Radio Development Director with Interep. She started her career with radio stations in L.A., New York and Boston. Steven Gustafson of 10,000 Maniacs

February 20, 2023 – My conversation with founding member and bassist of 10,000 Maniacs, Steven Gustafson. I knew that radio had a big part in 10,000 Maniacs making it as a band, but I didn’t realize just how connected the band was to radio in the early days. We talk about that connection and how it changed through the years. The band formed in 1981 while most members were students running the 10-watt non-commercial FM radio station WJWK, owned and operated by Jamestown Community College in Jamestown, NY. The band has released 15 records, performed over 1,500 concerts in 19 countries and continues to record and perform today. http://www.maniacs.com

Alec Drake

February 27, 2023 – Episode 23 – My guest for this episode is Alec Drake. Alec served in sales management and consulting roles for forty years. He consulted stations on yield management. He worked as Director of Sales for Cumulus Media Dallas for 15 years before starting Drake Media Group where he started writing on revenue management strategies, sales development ideas and coaching insights for management. Deborah Parenti

March 27, 2023 – Episode 24 – My conversation with Deborah Parenti, the President and Publisher of Streamline Publishing and Publisher of Radio Ink magazine. Deborah has been in the business for over 40 years with experience in marketing, sales, and management in Dayton, Louisville, and Philadelphia. We spoke on March 27 of this year and she was about to receive a Broadcasters Foundation of America Leadership award for 2023 and it has now been announced from the Museum of Broadcast Communications that Deborah will be a 2023 inductee into the Radio Hall of Fame. http://www.radioink.com

Fred Jacobs

April 7, 2023 – Episode 25 – My conversation with Fred Jacobs. Fred is the owner of Jacobs Media Strategies which celebrates its 40th Anniversary this Fall. They provide guidance to media brands and organizations, including commercial and public radio stations.

Fred is credited with the creation of the Classic Rock format in the early 80s. He was an inductee into the Radio Hall of Fame in 2018. In 2006, he was inducted into the Michigan Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame.

Danno Wolkoff

April 12, 2023 – Episode 26 – We’re talking syndication! My conversation with Danno Wolkoff. Danno is now retired but was the owner, founder, President, and CEO of Envision Radio Networks. Danno started his career in New York City at MJI Broadcasting which specialized in syndicated radio programs. Editors Note: this conversation happened on April 12, 2023 when we still had so much hope for this year’s Cleveland Guardians baseball season. Go Guardians!

Stephanie Theisen

May 9, 2023 – Episode 27 – My conversation with Stephanie Theisen. Stephanie is the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Leighton Broadcasting in St. Cloud, Minnesota. She started with Leighton as an intern in 2004 and has risen through the ranks as an Account Executive, Digital Sales Manager and General Sales Manager before her current role.

She is a 2014 graduate of the Rising Through The Ranks Class and a Mildred Carter Mentorship Program Mentee and Mentor. She was also a finalist for the Radio Wayne DOS/General Sales Manager of the Year in 2020.

Julie Ziegler

June 22, 2023 – Episode 28 – My conversation with Julie Ziegler. Julie is the Director of News and Programming at WTOP radio in Washington D.C. She is a Penn State grad and was first introduced to WTOP in 2002 when she served as an intern at the station while still attending Penn State.

She started her career at the station in 2003 and she has served in a variety of roles over the last 20 years including Managing editor of WTOP’s sister station, Federal News Radio dot com. She was part of the team that created and produced an award-winning true crime podcast.

She also served as the Digital News Director of WTOP.

Katie Thornton

Episode 29 – August 3, 2023 – My conversation with Katie Thornton. Katie is a Peabody-winning multimedia independent journalist doing podcasts and essays featured in and on NPR, WNYC, and the BBC as well as The Atlantic, The Guardian, and many more. She’s also a Fullbright National Geographic Digital Storytelling Fellow.

In 2022, she hosted a podcast series entitled The Divided Dial through On The Media and distributed by WNYC Studios. The Divided Dial is a look at far-right conservative talk radio and its’ influence on radio listeners across the country.
